Current Courses, University of Connecticut

I designed this course as an elective for students in the Masters of Public Policy and Masters of Public Administration programs. In this course, I teach students how to use a social equity framework for analyzing, implementing, and evaluating public policies. We then use this framework as a lens to examine topics in higher education policy, covering various issues related to (in)equity in higher education.

This course focuses on the policy process, major policy domains, and ethics and decision making in public policy. Case studies serve as vehicles for improving writing and presentation skills. This course emphasizes professional writing in the context of policy and management memoranda. Students learn to write for and present to a professional audience, think critically about complex policy issues, and use evidence to form a policy argument.

This is an undergraduate writing course that uses cases in public policy and public administration to teach students how to write professionally. This is a writing intensive course, including multiple revisions on each piece of writing. Students learn how to think critically, analyze complex policy issues, and incorporate evidence-based claims into their writing.
